Signature based detection: it's most common method to take down virus. This process, antivirus compares contents of the file to directory of virus signatures. Every virus program contains different malicious proggram. Firstly, antivirus collects odd proggram then create virus signature database.
Heuristic-based detection : There are some renowned antivirus uses this method. Many viruses start as a single infection and through either mutation or refinements by other attackers, can grow into dozens of slightly different strains, called variants. Rootkit Detection: Rootkit is malware, antivirus also can scan it. Rootkits normally changed OS . Several time, hacker injects rootkit to host !
